Why visit Happy Little Hobby Farm?

In the spring, we could visit your classroom to talk about hatching eggs, lambing, and kidding. Your class could incubate eggs for us and then bring the chicks back to the farm. On the farm, kids can interact with lambs, kids (goats), alpacas, chickens, and horses. We have two friendly dogs as well. We can talk about the composting cycle: how composted farm materials can later be used to feed the gardens, which in turn feed the animals. We can also give examples of how to sheer an animal and show what raw wool looks and feels like before becoming clothing. We can accommodate different learning objectives depending on the age of the students.

In the fall, we can talk about animal husbandry for the animals we breed. We can also talk about the processing of animals and how local farmers humanely dispatch their animals.

About our Farm

Happy Little Hobby Farm was started in 2024 when we got our first sheep, and we have since added many other animals to the farm. Our farm focuses on obtaining and raising winter-hardy animals that are well-adapted to the Yukon’s climate. We believe in socializing every animal so that it can be handled and easily taken places. We have 15 acres that are fully fenced with game fencing to keep wildlife out. Our goal is to keep the farm environment as natural as possible while integrating our animals into the landscape. We raise lambs for meat in the fall as well as a few goat kids. We raise goats primarily for milking. We also have chickens for meat and eggs. The horses and alpacas are guardian animals. We compost a lot and use the composted materials for our gardens and plant scraps are fed back to the animals.
